Obituary for John Stanley Dobbins Jr John S. Dobbins Jr, 88, of Mint Hill, NC, through the blessing of hospice, died peacefully at his home on January 6, 2019. John was an active family man his entire life; a loving, gentle man who showed his gentle side to many friends, companions, coworkers and church members. While in Marietta, Georgia, he met the beautiful Donna Young, whom he married.
They were blessed with three children: Monty, Scott and John Stanley III. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna; two sons: Monty (wife Ramona) and Scott (wife Sonya); eight grandchildren: John Dobbins, Amanda (husband Keith) Usher, Ashley (husband Chad) Allen, Kristen (husband Adam Crawford) Dobbins, Megan (husband Brent) Lowman, Silas Dobbins, Stephen Dobbins and Sophie Dobbins; and four great grandchildren. John is further survived by numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John Stanley Dobbins III, who died at the age of 59 and who is one of many of the loved ones John will reunite with at his great gathering in eternity. John was a faithful follower of Blair Road United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being very mechanical all his life, working for General Motors Corporation for close to 30 years as a dealer service representative then working for Mitchell Manuals for a few years prior to fully retiring.
He loved to play golf with friends and family, and also loved playing bridge with friends and neighbors. Once a friendship and a bond were formed, you were friends for life. This was evident in the Mint Hill Chapter of the Bojangles Breakfast Club, a group where John was a long-time member and where conversation and camaraderie reigned supreme.
John was always a travelling man and he loved to keep a trailer at the beach for frequent visits and enjoyment of the beauty of the coast. He and Donna went on journeys across this great country from coast to coast. He had a great wit and loved a good story, especially stories about doing life together.
His love for others will serve him well in the heavenly places. And though missed by those who remain, he will be welcomed by those who preceded him in passing. He was truly a family man to the end.
John’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. A visitation will take place from 6 to 7 pm on Tuesday, January 8, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
