Obituary for Ms. Johnnie Edwards (Spence) Calhoun City—Ms. Johnnie Ruth Edwards, 97, passed away peacefully at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Born April 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Luther Henry Spence and the late Fanchion Tilghman Spence. She graduated from Derma High School in 1938, and was a member of Derma Baptist Church.
In 1942, she married Hervy Carl “Doc” Edwards, and they were married for 70 years before his passing in 2012. Her family will always remember the good times and laughter shared through the years. She would want her family to also remember the good life she lived through faith, hope and love, and know she is now in her Heavenly Home.
Although her golden heart has stopped beating, and her loving hands are laid to rest, her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Edwards family. A funeral service honoring her life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00am at Pryor Funeral Home.
There will also be a visitation on Thursday from 9am until service time at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will follow at 2pm on Thursday at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS. Pastor Brad Burnett will be officiating.
She leaves behind a brother, Robert Paris Spence; two sisters, Bettie Lou Bryant and Mary Jean Griffin; and grandchildren, Raife Edwards and Wendy Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hervy “Doc” Edwards; a son, Hervy Carl Edwards, Jr.; a sister, Luther Nell Byrd; and a brother, John Tilghman “J.T.” Spence.
