Joseph A. VanRemoortere, 90, of Aurora passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford. Joe was born on January 28, 1929 in Norway, MI son of the late Alois “Blackie” and Mary (VanDamme) VanRemoortere. Joe married Joyce “Jidge” Trumble on September 16, 1950.

They took over the VanRemoortere Farm in 1959 and raised a son Joe and daughter Lonna. Joe and Jidge celebrated their 68th wedding Anniversary this last year, having many good memories. They took trips to Belgium to visit Joe’s family.

They also enjoyed the many trips they took with all their friends. They both enjoyed many years of entertaining at their cottage on Loon Lake with family and friends. Joe was an auctioneer for 50 years.

Joe enjoyed working, and especially with his son Joe. His laugh was contagious. Joe’s main goal in life was to provide for his family and make sure they were all taken care of.

He found his faith later in his life and sang songs to express his joy. Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Lonna (David) Calder of Green Bay, WI; a daughter-in-law, Lavone VanRemoortere of Aurora; two granddaughters, Shawna (Jeff) Lindow of Florence and Joy (Andy) Glatczak of Neenah; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Rebro of Milwaukee, WI; a brother-in-law, Randy (Jan) Trumble of Kingsford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph M. VanRemoortere; a brother, Jim VanRemoortere; and two sisters, Louise Bradley and Marie VanRemoortere.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 16th from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon at the Aurora Free Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Rev.

Karl Utzat will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery in the spring. A very special Thank You is extended to all the staff at Evergreen Assisted Living for the extra special care that was given to him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aurora Free Church or to the Gideons International.
