Joshua Elizabeth Yates, 86, of Bristolville Ohio passed away on November 3, 2018. Elizabeth was born to Charles Theodore Yates and Anna Theresa Mallory, May 26, 1932, in Niles, Ohio. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1951 and received a Certificate of Nursing (LVN) from the Saint Joseph Hospital and later received a License of Cosmetology.

She married Grover “Pete” C. Jackson on February 27, 1964, and they lived together in Bristolville, Ohio and later moved to Los Angeles. He preceded her in death 1968. Elizabeth later married Herman Houston Gowder on January 8th, 1972 and they lived together in Los Angeles, CA until their divorce in 1975.

Elizabeth was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) until she moved to Los Angeles, California where she switched vocations and became a US Postal Service Worker until she retired from the Post Office in 1985. She later returned to nursing and began working for Nurse Finders as a Nurse Coordinator until 1992. Joshua Elizabeth was always passionate about affecting the most positive change in people as demonstrated through her donations to organizations such as The Disabled Veterans of America, Easter Seals, UNICIF and TBN.

She leaves as her legacy her brother James-Michael F. Yates (aka son) and her surviving sister Mary Madeline Vaughn. She also left behind five grandchildren who affectionately called her “Wawa” and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Charles Theodore Yates (father), Anna Theresa Yates (mother), Prince Michael Justus James Evans (brother), Mary Marzee Smith (sister), Zerubbabel Emanuel Evans (brother), Ruth Young Anderson (sister), Victory Eziekel Beulah Brooks (sister), Hephzibah Evans (sister), Glory Anna Callion (sister) and Lilly of the Valley Goods.

Calling hours and services for friends and family in California were held on Monday, November 12, 2018. For friends and family in Ohio, calling hours will be from 10 – 11 AM on Thursday, November 15 at the Evergreen Chapel next to the Cemetery in Bristolville, Ohio where a funeral service and interment will be held at 11 AM. A reception will follow at New Vision Ministry, Tod Avenue, Warren, Ohio.

Pastor Noel J. Vaughn will officiate the ceremony. Flowers for the Bristolville, Ohio Funeral Service may be sent to Borowski Memorial Home, 30 Ridge Road, New Falls, Ohio 44444.
