Obituary for Joycelyn Ward Rundquist A woman who loved to beautify everything around her, Joycelyn Ward Rundquist, 79, departed from her three children peacefully in her sleep at Barrington Place Alzheimer’s Special Care Center early Dec. 27, 2018. Her aging struggles both refined her and brought her children together.
Joycelyn was born in Ogden, Utah on July 18, 1939, to Lettie Hazel Sessions and John Leo Ward and was the last surviving of her six siblings. In her final years, she devoted her heart to her dog, Tommy, who brought a profound amount of comfort. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings including Compassionate Service Leader and was sealed postmortem to her fourth husband, Army Lt.
Col. (Ret. ) William John Besser.
She was married on June 1, 1957 to Lloyd Roger Porter, the father of Sandy Porter Bryan (engaged to Jim Haycock) of Roy. Joycelyn married the late Stanton Watkins Barlow Nov. 22, 1963, the father of JaNae Barlow Francis (Bill) of Hooper.
Her third marriage was to James Bowman in June of 1974, the father of Justin Bowman (Jack Warbus) of Irving, Texas. She married the late William John Besser on April 23, 1998 and the late Don Lamar Rundquist on March 22, 2011. Her talents included encouraging and supporting her children and quilting.
A career Transportation Specialist and Supervisor at Defense Depot Ogden for 32 years, she later was a Realtor for ERA Webber and then Golden Spike Realty for 16 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Anna (Sterling) Hart, Keith (Ruby) Ward, Rae (DeVere) Sparrow, Geraldine (Dee) Shupe, DeLoy (Laura) Ward, and Brent Ward. Joycelyn had eight grandchildren: Kolt Bryan, Hunter Bryan, Vyncent (Taylor) Francis, Jessica (Josh) Barber, Heather (Nathan Miller) Francis, Kendra (Scott) Robinson, Celeste (Chase) Campbell, and Ethan Francis and great-grandchildren: Zoey and Tate Francis.
Friends may greet family members from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at Provident Funeral Home, South 3800 Washington Boulevard in Ogden. Following will be an intimate service there at 3p.m. Interment at Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Boulevard in Ogden.
