Max Wilton Grow Max Wilton Grow of Ogden, Utah passed away peacefully on December 9, 2018. Max was born on November 17, 1928 in Ogden and grew up on 12th street with his parents and 3 sisters. At age 16 Max tried to join the Merchant Marines during WWII.

When this proved unsuccessful, he managed to convince his parents to sign their consent so he could join the U.S. Navy at age 17. Max took part in Operation Crossroads in 1946 witnessing the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific. After his military service Max worked odd jobs including roughnecking on oil rigs in Colorado, repairing railroad trestles in Wyoming and providing security at the Army supply depot in Ogden.

In 1948 Max moved to Los Angeles with his best friend from high school, famed movie director Hal Ashby. Max worked odd jobs as well while attending electronics school and becoming an electronics technician with Marchant Calculators. He then moved back to Ogden and worked at Hill Air Force Base on the radar fire control systems and performing missile repair.

Several years later Max moved to Reno, Nevada to start a family and began working as a construction and building inspector for Washoe County. He spent many years living and working in Incline Village Lake Tahoe. Years later Max was able to reconnect with and eventually marry his high school sweetheart Janice, moving back to Ogden.

Over the years they travelled extensively in their R.V. and overseas. In addition to travel, Max enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, doing crossword puzzles, reminiscing about his Navy time and arguing just about anything. He was preceded in death by his sister (Elenor), son (Lane), and daughter (Lindy).

He is survived by his wife (Jan), son (Matthew), daughter (Kimberly), step children (Bruce, Genie, Amy, and Liz), many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be interred at the Huntsville Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Myers Ogden Mortuary.
