Obituary for Lynn Wesley Cavaness Lynn Wesley Cavaness, 81, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:49 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, in Murphysboro. Lynn was born on March 8, 1937, in Grand Tower, IL, a son to the late Homer Lynn and Helen Cook. He was united in marriage to Sue Perschbacher in Murphysboro on November 3, 1955.

Lynn was a tow boat captain, retiring after 56 years of distinguished service. Lynn’s travels took him up and down the Mississippi, Ohio, Arkansas and Illinois Rivers during those years. He was an avid collector of coins, knives, and tools.

Those times he was not on the river, he enjoyed sharing stories about his life on the river, cooking and spending time with his family, especially his grandson and his great grandchildren. He even enjoyed playing golf from time to time. Survivors include his wife, Sue Cavaness of Murphysboro; one daughter Pam (Mike) Siefert of Columbia, MO; one son, Brian Cavaness of Murphysboro; one grandson, Colby (Stevee) Siefert of Murphysboro; two great-grandchildren Kinley and Kamden Siefert of Murphysboro; and one sister, Diana Ethridge of Murphysboro.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Cavaness. Lynn was cremated, and no formal services will take place at his request. If you would like to make a donation in Lynn’s memory, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
