Obituary for Marjorie A. Thornton SOMERSET—Marjorie A. (Thorpe) Thornton, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 8th at the Somerset Ridge Nursing Center. She was the wife of Everett E. Thornton for 72 years.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late James Thorpe and the late Charlotte (Brearley) Thorpe, she had lived in Somerset since 1954. She was a graduate of the BMC Durfee High School. A member of the Union United Methodist Church, Fall River and its predecessor congregation where she first met her husband as a child, she was a member of the church choir for 35 years, a founding member of the bell choir and a longtime, very active and supportive member of the United Methodist Women and Hope Circle.

A lover of music, Marjorie played the piano and could be found singing at any time of day. She is remembered as a very giving person who loved and was deeply devoted to her family and friends. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Everett E. Thornton, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of N. Scituate, RI, Douglas J. Thornton of Hanson, MA, and Colin G. Thornton and his fiancée Karen Miranda of Dighton, MA; two daughters, Barbara A. Remy and her husband Thomas of Swansea, and Louann E. Cordeiro and her husband Kenneth of Somerset; seven grandchildren; Aaron T. Remy, Shannon J. Remy, Ryan M. Cordeiro, Colin J. Cordeiro, Evan E. Thornton, Cassandra M. Thornton and Alec E. Miranda; three great grandchildren; Travis E. Remy, Savannah V. Goss and Jameson J. Cordeiro, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also sister of the late James A. Thorpe and the late Hilda L. Mills, and maintained very close, loving relationships with them throughout their lives. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 10 AM in the Union United Methodist Church, Highland Ave.

, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Donations in Marjorie’s name can be made to the Union Church Memorial Fund.
