Michael J.”Iron Mike” Drewniak Jr., 82, of Conyngham, passed away early Sunday morning, January 27, 2019, at his home following a battle with cancer. Born in Quakertown, August 30, 1936, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Mildred (Gross) Drewniak, Sr. and spent the past forty-seven years in Conyngham. Michael attended Quakertown High School, Valley Forge Military Academy and was graduated with a degree in Economics from Ursinus College.

He was a stand out football player, achieving little All-American status in college. He served in the United States Army. He was with The Topps Company, Duryea, for thirty-three years, holding the position of Vice President of Manufacturing prior to his retirement.

He was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sugarloaf. He was an avid golfer, often found hitting balls on the practice range at Valley Country Club. Just this past summer, prior to his diagnosis, he was proud to still be shooting in the 70’s on the golf course, his goal in recent years being to shoot under his age.

He was also a passionate weight lifter and body builder who once won the bodybuilding title Mr. Trenton, New Jersey. Prior to his illness, he was still lifting regularly. He shared his love of weight lifting with many area high school football players who trained with him in his home gym over the years or in the weight room named after him at the former Bishop Hafey High School.

He was affectionately called “Iron Mike” by those who admired his physical strength over the years, as well as by those who respected his dedication to practicing golf. He was thrilled by the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Victory in early 2018, having been a life-long fan of the team. As an Eagles vs.

Redskins Game was his first date with wife, Carol, the team deserves partial credit for a marriage that spanned fifty-five years. While the team did not pull it off again this year, watching the playoffs surrounded by family brought him tremendous joy in his final weeks. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a grandson Cooper Michael Cloud.

Surviving are his wife, the former Carol Hyde to whom he was married on July 4, 1964 in St. John Bosco Church, the first couple to be married in the church; two daughters Tiffany Cloud and her husband Erik Olson, Conyngham; Tonya DuBois and her husband Doug, Naples, FL; two granddaughters Sadie Cloud and Aubrey DuBois; and a sister Lorraine Dearden and her husband Greg, Harleysville, PA. His funeral will be held Friday, February 1st at 9:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf. Burial will follow in Conyngham Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held Thursday evening. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
