Nell Elizabeth Huskins M Mahan , December 03, 1925 — July 30, 2018

Nell Huskins McMahan, age 92, of the Newdale Community, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 30, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family after a long and blessed life. Born on December 3rd, 1925 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Martha Woody Huskins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years: Glenn McMahan, who passed away in 1993; brothers: Jim, Avery, Rom and Ray Huskins; and, sisters: Inez Wilson, Tina Konopnicki, Cora Lee Huskins, Margie Howell, Helen Hicks, Catherine Robinson and Willa Ann Wyatt.

Nell is survived by her children: Teresa Freeman and husband, Doyle, of Mills River, and Marvin McMahan and wife, Jo, of Newdale; grandsons: Ryan and Dylan McMahan; and a sister: Georgia Self of Spruce Pine. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who will carry her many memories with them. Nell cherished her role as Grandmother so much that she adopted the name “Ma Nell” from her grandsons and was known by everyone as “Ma Nell”.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who never met a stranger and made everyone welcome in her home. “Ma Nell” read her Bible daily and faithfully loved God. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

“Ma Nell” enjoyed working in her flowers, feeding the hummingbirds and walking. She will forever be an inspiration to those who lives she touched. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 3PM in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.

Revs. Billy Mitchell and Ken Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Will Young Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days.
