Norma’s Obituary Norma (Halteman) Benner, 94, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Telford, PA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2019 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. She was the loving wife of the late LeRoy Y. Benner for 70 years. Norma was born in Franconia Twp.
, Pennsylvania to the late Preston Halteman and the late Katie (Bower) Halteman. She worked as a laborer for the former Standard Terry Mills in Souderton and then as a seamstress for the former Sun-Lite Clothing Shop in Souderton. Norma began “Mrs. Benner’s” baking business and later sold to Landis Supermarkets in Telford who kept the name for their bakery products and employed her as a baker.
She was a member of the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church where she was a former children’s Sunday school teacher, adult Sunday school class shepherd, an active member of the church’s sewing circle, and used her gift of calligraphy for many church certificates and documents. Norma volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton. She enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting, sewing, calligraphy, reading the Bible, and flower gardening.
Norma was an excellent student and was interested in family history. She was a mentor and mother to many people. Norma was known for taking meals to families and sending encouraging letters.
She was a caring, kind, compassionate, humble, loving, woman of prayer who had a good sense of humor. Norma is survived by her two daughters, Karen F. Hunsberger & husband, Duane of Telford, PA, Beverly D. Hoffman & husband, Stevin of Ephrata, PA; her two sons, Orrin Benner & wife, Sandra of Telford, PA, Cedric Benner & wife, Sarah of Catonsville, MD; her 14 grandchildren – Tamara, Keith, Kyle, Tomi, Angela, Joy, Katrina, Tessa, Matthew, Lauren, Christian, Bria, Devin & Madison; her 19 great-grandchildren – Curtis, Tyler, Mariah, Isaiah, Jaden, Kolson, Owen, Dawson, Karena, Kyan, Mikayla, Logan, Fiona, Alivia, Evelynn, Eden, Elijah, Asher, & Rowan; her two sisters, Betty Hackman & husband, Norman of Lansdale, PA, Pauline Vail & husband, George of West Sayville, Long Island, NY; and her two brothers, Curtis Halteman of Souderton, PA, Paul Halteman & wife, Sara of Sellersville, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Merrill & Alton Halteman and her four sisters-in-law, Patricia, Halteman, Ruth, & Norma Halteman.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 am at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964. A private burial will take place at Blooming Glen Mennonite Cemetery.
