Rogersville: Otis L. Fields, age 68, of Rogersville, passed from this life into eternity on the evening of Monday, September 17, 2018. He was born March 17, 1950. Otis was retired from International Card & Label Co. following 40+ years of service.

Mr. Fields was a member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Otis’ first love was his wife, Judy. His second love was Bantam Chickens.

In the middle 1970’s, after showing his chickens in local fairs and shows, Otis developed a desire to become one of the best breeders and exhibitors of Bantam Chickens in the world. His White Old English Bantams remain world class. He also received notoriety with Black OE, Black Breasted Red OE and various other varieties of Old English Bantams.

Over and over, Otis acheived his dream and was named Master Breeder and Master Exhibitor many times by the Old English Game Bantam Club of America and the American Bantam Associaton. In 2017, Otis was inducted into the Old English Game Bantam Club of America’s Hall of Fame in the Living Category. He had reached the top with almost four decades of hard work and continued to care for his birds, even as his health began to fail.

He will be missed by all the bird people who knew him. Otis also loved to hunt, fish and raise hunting dogs. He would spend many days afield during hunting seasons, from squirrels, rabbits, quails to ruffled grouse and turkeys.

He also was a great shot. His fishing adventures included red eyes in Big Creek and smallmouth bass, walleye and sauger in the Clinch River, to crappie and blue gill in Cherokee Lake. Otis loved sports of all kinds.
