Obituary for Patricia A. (Winney) Fischer Patricia Arlene (Pat) Fischer was born on June 16, 1933 to Phares E. and Bertha M. Winney in Ann Arbor, Michigan and passed away peacefully on September 28, 2018. She grew up on Ann Arbor’s North side and graduated from the University of Michigan. She later obtained her Master’s degree in early childhood education.

Pat was an elementary teacher with Ann Arbor public schools for 38 years. She had a genuine love for children and helping them learn. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church for many years and volunteered there in multiple roles.

A lifelong animal lover, Pat volunteered for the Humane Society of Huron Valley. She loved her dogs Tucker, Curly, Lucky, and Jesabelle. She was an avid music lover, played the piano, sang and performed with Sweet Adelines.

She loved to read and enjoyed books on all subjects. She was an enthusiastic University of Michigan sports fan and attended many U of M football games with her brother, uncles and cousins. Pat had a tremendous respect for nature and a special love for Michigan’s great outdoors.

She spent hours wandering the shores of the Great Lakes collecting rocks. She appreciated each season of the year and the different blessings that each one would bring. She enjoyed travel throughout her life, including trips to Chicago, all over Northern Michigan, Texas, Florida, Alabama, and Europe.

Pat had a unique sense of humor and a fiery, “take charge” personality. Her presence turned ordinary things into something special. More than anything, Pat loved spending time with her family and many close friends.

She will be greatly missed by all those blessed to have known her. Pat is survived by her nieces, Shannon Barnes and Jennifer (Bryan) Burgess of Texas, and two grandnieces Kristine (Edward) Ignacio of Michigan and Jenny Leigh (Albert) Genest of Connecticut; four grandnephews, Kyle Wolverton of Michigan; Jason Eyestone of Texas; Brian (Megan) Barnes of Texas and Matthew Phares Burgess of Texas, several cousins, and former husband Jack Burmeister of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Fischer; her parents; her brother Phares Arthur “Art” Winney and sister in law Dolores Barth Winney; niece Shelley Patricia Eyestone; nephew Keith Barnes, and ten beloved aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of Patricia to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Rd. , Ann Arbor, MI 48105. A private family burial will take place.
