Ray Dennis Joyce, age 77, of Jewell Ridge, VA passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Carolina Caring in Newton, NC. Ray was born in Jewell Ridge, VA and was the son of the late Emory L. and Mary Boyd Joyce. He was a retired miner of Jewell Ridge Coal and Pittston Coal Company.

He was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Smith Joyce; two brothers, Emory Lawrence Joyce, Jr. and Ronald “Jake” Joyce; and one sister, Barbara Joyce. He is survived by: Daughter: Teresa Lynn Joyce and husband, Lee Clark of Jewell Ridge, VA Two Sons: Donald Ray Joyce and wife, Karen of Ennice, NC Emory Dean Joyce and wife, Melissa of Jewell Ridge, VA Three Grandchildren: Heath Woodard, Brittany Joyce and Keshia Horn Two Great Grandchildren: Kelan Lott and Parker Starnes Sisters: Linda Stacy and husband, David Adkins of Cedar Bluff, VA Dolly Ison of Castlewood, VA Brothers: Ralph Joyce and wife, Delores of Claypool Hill, VA Raymond Joyce and wife, Velma of Mansfield, OH Sister-in-Law, Ruby Joyce of Royalton, OH Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Ray Dennis Joyce will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Bruce Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery on Smith Ridge, near Jewell Ridge, VA.

Pallbearers will be: Don Joyce, Dean Joyce, Vernon “Bun” White, Jeremy Joyce, Kenneth Perkins, Stevie Joyce, Heath Woodward and Ryan Lott. The Joyce family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
