Mavis Loretta Brown, age 78, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at an assisted living in Tazewell, Virginia. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Dora Ethel White Byrd. She had worked as a cook for Burger King for several years.

Mostly, Mavis had dedicated her life taking care of her family. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mavis attended Souls Harbor Church and Impact International Church where served in the children’s ministry.

She was a charter member of the Raven Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Henry Brown. Those who will carry on her spirit are: Daughters: Loretta Lowe and husband, Bobby of Richlands, VA Henrietta Gilbert and husband, Ronnie of Lebanon, VA Sons: Earl Henry Brown, Jr. and wife, Bonita of Richlands, VA Charles Alan Brown and wife, Tina of Claypool Hill, VA Sister, Bonnie Short of Richlands, VA Brother, Roy Lee Byrd of Tazewell, VA Grandchildren: Shanna Sawyers and husband, Billy; Zachary Brown and fiancé, Amber; Ronnie Gilbert, Jr., Cory Gilbert, Kennedi Brown, and Ashley Spencer Great Grandchildren: Graisyn Gilbert and Finnley Sawyers A host of family and friends also survive.

Special thanks to: Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens (PACE), Miana Bonds, Donna Damron, Leda Lester, Jean Thomas, Carla Honaker, Amanda Rowe, Dogwood Crossing, and Tazewell Community Hospital. Funeral services for Mavis Loretta Brown will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Linda Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA.
