Nellie Sue Vandyke, age 84 of Boissevain, VA passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. She was born September 13, 1934 in Tazewell County, VA and was a daughter of the late Garland and Mary Matilda Whitt Lane. Mrs. Vandyke was a 1955 Graduate of Richlands High School and enjoyed embroidery, reading and listening to gospel music.

Mrs. Vandyke loved spending time with her friends and volunteering at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. When her health permitted she attended the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church at Boissevain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Vandyke; one son, William Lee Vandyke; two grandchildren, Jessica Christian Vega and Zachary Andrew Sparks; one son-in-law, Dennis “Denny” Ugiansky.

Those who survive to cherish her memory include four daughters, Barbara Ugiansky of Glen Wood, MD, Judy Kelley and husband, Earl of Hagerstown, MD, Goldie Sparks and husband, R.A. of Cedar Bluff, VA and Patricia Mitchem and husband, Ricky of Boissevain, VA; two sons, Tom Vandyke and wife, Tonya of Charlestown, WV and Jeffrey Vandyke and wife, Opal of Forest City, NC; one sister, Linda Schiffer of Finely, OH; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many-many grandchildren of the heart; several nieces; nephews; other family members and friends also survive. The family would like to thank the professional nurses and staff of Bluefield Regional Medical Center and the caregivers of Hospice Compasses, who went above and beyond their duties to make Mrs. Vandyke’s hospital stay as comfortable as possible. Funeral Services for Mrs. Vandyke will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Curtis Shrader officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV. Pallbearers will be Michael Mitchem, Christian Velasques, Jimmy Lewis, Max Compton, Ricky Mitchem, Jr. and Cody Sparks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Vandyke and Felix Vega, Jr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
