Douglas Roderick Kitts age 74, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at a local Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Harold Burton “H.B.” Kitts, Sr., and Hazel Stamper Kitts. Douglas was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1963 and after graduation, moved to Ohio to work for General Motors for 13 years.

In 1976, he and his family moved back to Richlands, where he became a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed working with and handling wood. He was an avid fan and supporter of the Richlands High School Football and Band programs.

Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved being with his family, grandkids and his eight cats. He attended the Trinity Assembly of God and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Charlotte Kitts; two brothers, Harold Burton Kitts, Jr., and Dennis Randolph “Randy” Kitts.

Those who live to carry on his spirit are his: Loving wife, Lila Sharon Sullivan Kitts of Richlands, VA Daughters: Melanie Yates and husband, Dustin of Richlands, VA Crystal Heifner and husband, Allen of Cedar Bluff, VA Grandkids: Kiana Hunsaker, Xander Hunsaker, Gray Heifner, Tyler Kitts Yates and Destanie Star Yates. Several Feline companions also survive that he dearly loved. The funeral service for Douglas Roderick Kitts will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev.

Randy Fielder officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Elijah Hunsaker, Jarod Horn, David Helmandollar, Douglas Dye, William Dye, and Billy Sullivan.

Ethan Fuller and Matthew Sullivan will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
