James Harry Dye, age 70, of Doran, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a sudden illness. He was born in Swords Creek and was the son of the late Havelyn and Edna Mae Cox Dye. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired foreman from Jewell Smokeless.

He was a member of Raven Assembly of God and was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Bill Gillespie; sister, Hilda Lynch; and three brothers, Larry, Mark, and Milton “Mo” Dye. Survivors are: His Wife: Shirley Ann Dye Step Son: Jerry Gillespie and wife, Beth of Claypool Hill, VA Step Daughter: Teresa Vandyke of Doran, VA Sisters: Sue Lowery and husband, Eddie of Anderson, SC Alice Whitt and husband, Jack of Richlands, VA Sister in Law: Sherry Dye of Richlands, VA Five Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for James Dye will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 1pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Pastor Doug Johnson, Phyllis Simmons, and Jeremy Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and the Fallen Warriors will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 6pm-9pm Tuesday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA.
