Jimmy “Chief” Douglas Harrison age 68 of Richlands, Virginia passed away on March 06, 2019 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Salem, VA. Jimmy was born in Richlands, VA and remained a lifetime resident and was the son of the late Harry Daniel Harrison, Sr. and Lena Katherine (Bucklen) Harrison. He attended Richlands High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam.

During his time in Vietnam he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Parachute Badge; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Purple Heart; Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star Medal with Valor. After returning home he worked as coal miner for both Consol and Jewell Smokeless, before retiring. Jimmy loved shooting pool, being in the outdoors and socializing with people, he really just had a true zest for life.

He was a member of the VFW Post #9640. One thing Jimmy was very proud of was his Indian heritage. He studied the family’s Indian heritage and attended many Pow Wows, where he was known as “Warrior”.

Those to carry on his memory and spirit are his: Sons: Seth Harrison of Richlands, VA Jimmy Harrison, Jr. and companion Sylvia Fitzwater of Richmond, VA Daughters: Sherri Lynn Constanza of TX Lena Large Of Tazewell, VA Sisters: Elizabeth Louellen McBeth and companion Mark Kellam of Martinsville, VA Susie Ray and companion Ronnie Hines of King, NC Brothers: Ervin Harrison and Lana Jo of Wilkesboro, NC Harry Daniel “Butch” Harrison, Jr. and companion Jo Vastala of Hamilton, OH Larry Wayne Harrison and Angie of Bristol, VA Charles “Chuck” Harrison and Cindy of Pounding Mill, VA Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Jimmy “Chief” Harrison will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm and the Reverend Linda Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, VA.
