Raymond “Ray” Vernon Starks, 74 HARTFORD CITY – Raymond “Ray” V. Starks, 74, went to be with the Lord at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at IU Health Blackford County Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis on March 4, 1944 to Paul L. Starks and Betty G. (Hunter) Starks. Both of his parents precede him in death.

They moved to Blackford County in 1970 from Indianapolis. Ray retired from Marsh after 18 years of service and retired in 2011 from WorkOne, where he was the training director for 31 years. After his retirement he was a substitute teacher and a tutor.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hartford City, where he was active for many years being a former elder, youth leader and children’s Sunday school teacher. He had been a Boy Scout Leader and for many years he had been a basketball coach for the YMCA. He was an avid gardener and always enjoyed his beautiful flower beds and vegetable gardens.

He enjoyed fishing at Hiles, WI. Ray will be sadly missed by his wife, Joyce Starks of Hartford City; his children, David M. (wife, Karen) Starks of Eaton, Beverly J. (husband, Mac) Guffey of Upland, Karen L. (husband, Dr. Scott D.D.S.) Barry of Arcanum, OH and Christopher “Chris” A. Starks of Hartford City; grandchildren, Andy Ashcraft, Dustin Ashcraft, Kerri (husband, Caleb) Miller, Jimmy Barry, Allie Barry and Charlie Barry; great-grandchild, Shelby Ashcraft; brother, Paul D. (wife, Carolyn) Starks of Spencer; sisters, Sandra (husband, Joel) Davis of Indianapolis and Carolyn (husband, Raymond) Toon of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jim and Priscilla Johnson of Hartford City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City, with Pastor Chris Neel, Rev.

Lloyd Hall and Rev. Bob Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
