(Ret)Colonel Ronald R. Barrett September 4, 1948 – April 25, 2018 Colonel Ronald R. Barrett, 69, of Florida, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in California. Ron was born on September 4, 1948 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Robert and Ramona (Otto) Barrett. Ron was a 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s High School.

He entered the Air Force in 1971, after graduating from the University of Detroit, as a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training… Read More » Corps program. His operational expertise included duty as a squadron operations officer of an operational F- 4G Wild Weasel squadron and commander of an F- 4G Wild Weasel training squadron. His experience also included two tours on the Air Staff working operational requirements for avionics and weapons and serving as Chief, Air Force Requirements Policy.

Ron’s last USAF assignment was at Eglin AFB, Florida. There, he served as a commander of All Service Combat Identification Evaluation Team (ASCIET). His military major awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Commendation Medal, and the Combat Readiness Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

In 2000, after 28 years of Air Force service, Ron continued to work for his country as a contractor for the Department of Defense. Ron was a member of the Rocky Bayou Country Club where he enjoyed golf. He also served as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron was a Lectern Coordinator for Saint Michaels the Archangel Catholic Chapel on Eglin, AFB. Ron’s greatest life joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether it was reading stories that he brought to life or horse playing, he enjoyed everything about being Papa/Grandpa.

With his wife Rose Ann along his side, Ron served God, his country, and his family. He was a champion of Christ and a spiritual leader for his family. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rose Ann (Schlotterer) Barrett, whom he married on June 12, 1971; 2 daughters, Cassandra (Ben) Dennis of Huron, Elisa (Andy) Hodapp of Florida; 2 sons, Aaron (Lydia) Barrett of Kentucky and Rob (Jeff Horton) Barrett of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Colton, Cortney, Beren, Brynn, Olivia, Evan, Elle and Morgan; 3 sisters, Mona Rae (Bill) Rutger, Sandy (Rich) Lauber and Laura (Kevin Bache) Barrett-Bache and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
