John James Thompson July 20, 1926 – April 8, 2018 John James Thompson, 91, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at his residence after a lengthy illness. John was born on July 20, 1926 in Wilbur, KY to the late Walker and Nancy (O’Brien) Thompson Sr. John was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country during WWII. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1996 after 40 years of service, and also owned and operated a small engine repair shop,… Read More » which he retired from at age 89.

John enjoyed working with stained glass, baseball, football and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his daughters, LeNora Jane Azbill of Katy, TX and Patricia Cox of Marysville, OH; son, Gary Thompson of Sandusky; grandchildren, Tracy, Christopher, Sheri, Nicole, Richard, Keith, Barbara, Michelle, Mikayla and Felicia; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Cordle of Berlin Heights, Willa Alice of KY, Neva Mae Robinett of Odessa, TX, Sharon Faye (Hoover) Smith of Rural Retreat, VA, Barbara Jo Borders of Ulysess, KY, Joy Ruth (Dennis) Miller and Nancy Sue (Ralph) Bryant both of Sandusky; brother, Walker Thompson Jr. of Sandusky and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Lou (Moore) Thompson; son, James L. Thompson; sisters, Genoa Ann Church, Lois Gay and Mary Mora and brothers, Harry Jackson and Loyd Edward Thompson.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10am. Pastor David Clarke will officiate.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Those wishing to contribute to John’s memory may do so to one’s favorite charity.
