Robert A. Jacobs November 4, 1925 – April 12, 2018 Robert A. Jacobs, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2018 at Parkvue Health Care Center after a brief illness. Robert was born on November 4, 1925 in Willard, OH the oldest child of Lewis W. and Veva M. (Walker) Jacobs. Robert attended Trinity Lutheran Church and school in Willard and graduated in 1943.

He joined the WWII Navy V-12 Unit and was discharged from the Chicago Great Lakes… Read More » Naval Base after the V-12 units were closed. Bob married Ruth E. Driver on August 11, 1945. They were married 72 years.

He attended Baldwin Wallace University & several colleges for insurance programs and received his Charter Life Underwriters Degree. He retired from Western and Southern Life Insurance Company in 1981. He was a carpenter- not by trade-but by hobby!

He loved to build and create! Bob was a member of the Harlequins Community Theatre, mostly as a builder of the play sets and other projects. In the spring, Bob assisted local schools with Play set construction for many years.

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels at the Senior Center for over 25 years. He was a volunteer for the Sandusky YMCA for over 62 years and also served on the YMCA Board of Directors. He served the Erie County United Way Campaign, Serving our Seniors, and many others.

In 1975, he received the Sandusky Register’s “Man of the Year” award. Bob was an amazing man who generously gave to his community. Although his charitable actions were great, he never wanted any recognition.

Bob was a great man who was extremely proud of his family, friends and all his relatives! A generous man, he was! Robert is survived by his brothers, Phil (Anna Mae) of FL, Tom (Marlana) of TX and Larry of Willard; sisters, Donna (Richard) Newland, Linda Jacobs and Jean (Dan) Traxler all of Willard; several cousins; 19 nieces and nephews and many great nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Driver) Jacobs in April 2017; brothers, Ted, Fred, Jim and Dan; sisters-in-law, Mary Jacobs Kirkwood, Lorrie Jacobs Mastellone, Carolyn Jacobs, Sue Ellen Jacobs and Gail Jacobs; niece, Sandy Jacobs Junker and nephew, David Newland. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 4 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave. , Sandusky until the time of funeral services at 6:30 pm in the funeral home.

Services by the American Legion Honor Guard will immediately follow. Burial will take place at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, OH. Bob would like to thank the staff at Parkvue Assisted Living, “Sheryl’s girls”, and Stein Hospice Sandusky, for their great care and friendship.

A special thank you to his special niece and friends, Valerie and Steve, Donna E., Linda M. and Nate Fuller for all their assistance and friendship these past years. He would like to thank all his family and friends in his life! He always had a smile on his face!
