Samuel L. Amison, 67, of Sandusky, fought a good fight and earned his heavenly wings on April 24, 2018 in the Ohio Veterans Home. He was born on May 28, 1950 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to Estell and Ida (Ross) Amison. The family relocated to Sandusky when he was 2 years old.

Samuel attended Sandusky Schools, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1969. “Sam” joined the U.S. Navy, becoming an engineer specialist. Upon discharge from the Navy, he joined the National Guard, continuing to serve into the early 1990’s.

Sam worked at Foster Grant for many years and at the Ohio Veterans Home for 24 years. He also worked alongside family members until his retirement. Sam was a chef and could often be found cooking and serving his delicious dishes to family members and friends.

He was a devoted father, brother, and uncle. Sam leaves to cherish his memory his son, Sammon (Sabryna) Amison, of Sandusky; daughters, Kisha (Troi) Williams, of Columbus, OH, and Shammara Amison, of Sandusky; beloved grandchildren, Akria Williams, Samia Amison, Samaja Amison, and Samahni Amison; brothers, Estell Amison Jr., of Sandusky, Clinton Amison, of Columbus, OH, Joseph (Laura) Amison, of Hopewell, VA, and Howard Amison, of Columbus, OH; sisters, Georgia, Mabel, Jeanette, Nancy, and De-De Amison, all of Columbus, OH, Lynn Amison, of Sandusky, and Carrie Rhone, of Prince George, VA; his love, Bonnie; as well as 14 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and -nephews; five great-great-nieces and -nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; sister, Christine Amison Smith; aunts, Katie B. Keahey, Mary Alice Amison, Minnie Pentorn; and uncles, William Amison and Cornelius Amison Sr. Friends may call on Friday, April 27 from 10 a.m. until funeral services begin at 12 p.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky.

The American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide military honors outside the church immediately following the funeral. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave. , Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
