Obituary for Richard “Dick” J. Ward Richard J. “Dick” Ward Sr., 73, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born October 28, 1944 in Beloit, WI, the son of Elmer L. and Mazella “Mazie” Loraine (Hartwich) Ward. Dick was a 1963 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Alexander Hamilton SSBN 617. His service included the Cuban Missile Crisis. Dick married Gloria J. Stanford on December 21, 1963 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI.

Dick was the former owner and operator of Dick’s Refrigeration, Appliance and Repair. He held various maintenance jobs and specialized in HVAC, retiring in 2003. Dick enjoyed hunting, camping, chocolate shakes, sweets, giving one-liner jokes and creating havoc.

He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Dick was a NASCAR fan and also enjoyed racing his 66 Ford Fairlane #187 at the Rockford Speedway. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gloria Ward of Beloit, WI; son, Rich (Deb) Ward of Mitchell, IN; daughter, Char Ward-Walters of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Nick (Anna) VanGemert, Chris VanGemert all of Mitchell, IN, Johnny (Alessia) Ward of Beloit, WI, Mandie Ward of Mitchell, IN, Brian (Ashley) Walters of Beloit, WI, Brad (Maggie) Walters and Bridget (Dan) Sorenson all of Racine, WI; great grandchildren, Brayden, Caleb, Bristin, Kanon, Talia, Dawson, Jake and Anikyn; brother, Pat (Lyla) Ward of Beloit, WI; half brother, David Ward of Port Washington, FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Diane (Joe) Pepitone, Harry (Sandi) Stanford, Gerry (Linda) Stanford and Roger (Kara) Stanford; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and close family friends including Tom Walters and Joe Mitchell. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Helen Cofer, niece Karen Nehls, great granddaughter Brielle Emma Marie Walters and beloved dog Missy. Funeral service for Dick will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Tony Dusso officiating.

Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL, with Military Honors accorded by the V.F. W. Post #2306. Visitation of remembrance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in the funeral home. Visitation of remembrance will also be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in honor of Dick’s great granddaughter to the Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation.
