Rita P. Bricely, age 91, of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 8:30pm at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky. Rita was born on April 16, 1927 in Mifflin Township, Wyandot County to Carl A. and Helen A. (Orians) Rall, both of whom are deceased. She married William B. Bricely on April 20, 1949 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky and he died on November 26, 2013.
They were married for 64 wonderful years and had 16 children. She is survived by 8 sons: Jim (Chris) Bricely of Tucson, Arizona, Mike (Sue) Bricely of Marion, Ohio, Bob (Diana) Bricely of McCormick, South Carolina, Tim (Elizabeth) Bricely of Upper Sandusky, Brian Bricely of Upper Sandusky, Chuck Bricely of Upper Sandusky, Bill (Jane) Bricely of Upper Sandusky and Mark (Angie) Bricely, also of Upper Sandusky. Six daughters also survive: Becky (Bob) Posey, Bucyrus, Mary Davis of Carey, Laura (Tim) Cole of Nevada, Ohio, Rosemary (Alan) Giles, Harpster, Ohio, Barb (Jamie) Schlegel of Upper Sandusky and Rachel Espin, also of Upper Sandusky.
Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren survive as well. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Pat Bricely and John Bricely and three grandchildren, Christopher Bricely, Luke Bricely and Michael Posey, as well as a brother, Bernard Rall and two sisters, Janet Logsdon and Charlene Steyer. Rita was a 1945 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a 1948 graduate of Mercy Hospital in Toledo with a degree in Nursing.
She worked at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima and Tiffin Mercy Hospital before returning to Upper Sandusky to work for the Medical Associates under Drs. Browne, Solacoff and Rhoades. She also worked for several nursing homes in Upper Sandusky before retiring in 1986.
She then moved to Tucson, Arizona for 27 years before returning to Nevada, Ohio. She was a member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Tucson and a member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. Rita was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.
Rita enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved watching The Price is Right, Family Feud and doing crossword puzzles. She wrote a memoir, “The Nuts on Hazel Street”, of her family in their younger years in Upper Sandusky.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, August 11, 2018 Transfiguration of the Lord Church with Father Antony Varghese Vattaparambil, OFM, Conv. and Deacon Kevin Wintersteller, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Salem Township.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County and may be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
