Obituary for Robert Leon “Bob” Fairfield Robert Leon “Bob” Fairfield, 82, of Bonita Springs, FL, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Formerly of Cleveland, OH, he had been a Bonita Springs resident since 1999. He was born July 16, 1936 in Sandusky, OH, the son of Clyde Joseph and Bernice (née Scherer) Fairfield.
Bob attended Sandusky High School and then the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, . including a year aboard ship in the Mediterranean and on the Great Lakes. In 1959 he married the only love of his life, Paula.
His executive career spanned over 35 years at Equifax (formerly Retail Credit Co.) including time as the General Manager of the Cleveland and Orange County, CA offices. Upon retirement Bob continued working as a consultant for many of his former clients. Bob has been a member of the Bonita Bay Club for over 15 years, enjoying golf, the Fitness Center and the Club.
He was also a member of St Leo’s church and active in local charities. Bob’s true passions were his family, sports and travel. Mr. Fairfield is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Paula A. (née Griesser) Fairfield; his beloved children, Wendy C. Fairfield of Bonita Springs, FL, R. Matthew (Mariska) Fairfield of Barcelona, Spain and Bradley J, (Suzanne) Fairfield of Avon Lake, OH; and seven cherished grandchildren, Nora, Taki, Connor, Daniel, Ian, Finn and Kyra.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father & mother In-law, Daniel and Marion “Monie” Griesser; brother in-law, David Gast; aunt, Helene Glauber Caldwell; nephew, Christopher Gast; and many aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs. The Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow at the family home in Bonita Bay…we hope that everyone will join us!
Services and Celebration of Life will also take place in Northeast Ohio in early January at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Avon Lake, Ohio. Dates and details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Edward High School, 13500 Detroit Ave.
