Obituary for Ross Edward Babington Ross Edward Babington, 66, of Johnston City, went to meet his Savior at 5:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ross was born April 1, 1952 in Herrin, the son of Melburn and Elinor (Kendrick) Babington. Ross graduated from Johnston City High School in 1970 and later earned his bachelor degree from Southern Illinois University.

Before his retirement he was a teacher, coach and administrator in Ashland, Sesser and Johnston City. Ross was quite a faithful Chicago Cubs fan, often favoring #14 in honor of Ernie Banks on his sports jerseys. On November 23, 1973, Ross married Kathy Jo Cockburn, who quickly blessed the Babington family as a daughter and sister instead of an in-law.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Bridgett (John) Ray of Carterville; son Brock Babington of Morris; and daughter Brooke (Daniel) Henderson of Johnston City; five grandchildren, Wyatt Henderson, Brady Babington, Rossi Henderson, Ryan Ray and Eli Ray; sister, Glenda Ruppel; brother, Rick (Sandy) Babington; mother-in-law, Mary Louise Cockburn; brother-in-law, Jim (Donna) Cockburn; special nieces and nephews, David (Kim) Babington, Amy Jo (Jerry) Cook of St. Joseph, Travis (Channa) Cockburn, Wendi Jo (Tony) Evans and Trent (Melissa) Cockburn; two aunts, Shirley Kendrick and Joyce Kendrick. He is also survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Glenn Ruppel and father-in-law, Joe Cockburn.

Funeral services for Ross Babington will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Rev. Stephen Hudspath and his life long friend, Rick Ditch officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jerry Travelstead and his nephew, Travis Cockburn.

Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Friends are welcome to gather for visitation from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., on Monday at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Johnston City where Ross was a life-long member or to the Ross Babington Memorial Scholarship Fund. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home. For additional information or to sign the book of memories, please visit www.
