Obituary of Royal Denson, Jr. Royal W. Denson, Jr., age 94 years, of Corning, NY passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Steuben Center in Bath, NY. Royal was born August 7, 1924 in Elmira, NY to Royal Denson and Florence Stuart. He married Marjorie Orcutt on August 24, 1946 in Elmira, NY.
She predeceased him on March 30, 2018. Royal was a proud WWII veteran serving from 1943-1945 in the Army with the 10th Mountain Division Troops in Italy for which he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He later began a 34 year career with Corning Glass Works as a Lab Technician, retiring in 1986.
He was an accomplished Ventriloquist performing for many USO Shows and for local organizations for 54 years. He bowled for many years at Lisi Lanes and Crystal Lanes, and the travel league, the “Jolly Go Getters”. He enjoyed carp shooting, archery and countless fishing trips.
After retiring, Royal and Marjorie enjoyed traveling with trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Las Vegas. They enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, NY Yankees and took several trips to Yankee Stadium. In their senior years their favorite activity was getting their afternoon snack at the Painted Post McDonalds.
Royal became a Mason in 1948 joining the Alfred Lodge. He was currently a brother in the Corning Union Lodge #186. He was also a lifetime member of the Crystal City VFW 524.
He is survived by three daughters: Patsy (Gary Miller) Stull of Painted Post, NY, Marilyn Denson of Horseheads, NY and Dawn (Scott) Phenes of Savona, NY; 4 grandchildren: Ryan (Kerri) Phenes of Savona, Kalli (Jeff) Pike of Bel Air, MD, Adam (Melissa) Phenes of Corning, Brandon (Francesca) Phenes of Hornell; 9 great grandchildren: Alivia, Ethan, Kaden, Ally, Asher, Ashli, Abel, Xander, Addyson, and 2 on the way; brothers: Robert (Bonnie) Stuart of Millport, NY, and Ronald (Maryellen) Stuart of Lancaster, PA; sisters in law: Katherine Krazinsky of Annapolis, MD, Kay Orcutt of Elmira Heights; brother in law: James (Barbara) Orcutt of Liverpool, NY; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with his parents and wife he is predeceased by his son in law: Richard Stull, and grandson: Kyle Stull. Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm with his brother Pastor Robert Stuart officiating. A reception will be held at the Marconi Lodge Post 47 (across from the funeral home) immediately following. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery, Painted Post on Friday at 10:00am.
