Ruth’s Obituary Ruth Sands, 95, of Redwood Falls and formerly of New Ulm died Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, February 2, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Gene Alms officiating Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.

Ruth was born on March 18, 1923 to Frank and Elizabeth (Chworowsky) Koenecke in Dunnell Minnesota. She grew up 4th in a family of four boys and eight girls. Ruth farmed right along with her dad and brothers.

She was proud of her physical strength, farming, and animal husbandry skills. Ruth had a lifelong love of horses which has been passed down to many family members. Ruth was a teacher her entire life, starting in Country school and ending at Jefferson Elementary School in New Ulm.

She was also a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #132. Ruth loved to sing and sang at many weddings and was always in the church choir. She encouraged her four oldest children to sing together in church as “The Four Grains of Sand”.

Ruth was very creative over her life and enjoyed calligraphy, working with plastic canvas, embroidering dish towels, and pillowcases; which were in high demand by family and friends. She and dad were also very busy in their community. Ruth and Ernie were awarded the New Ulm Sertoma Club Service to Mankind award in 1995.

Ruth loved to laugh and when she and her sisters got together, it was pretty nonstop. Their family was very close and she and dad passed that value onto us. As long as they were able, they attended every baptism, confirmation, graduation, and wedding they could get to.

Ruth is survived by Lyn Sands of Queensville, Ontario, Canada, John (Linda Schiffer) Sands of Big Lake, Frank (Patti) Sands of Dallas, Texas, Barb Hennen of Redwood Falls, Tom (Juli) Sands of Eden Prairie; three siblings, Jean Anderson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Helen (Roger) Lueck of Fairmont, and Dean (Vivian) Keonecke of Alexandria; 19 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, nine great- great grandchildren, four great- great- great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernie; 3 brothers, 5 sisters, and 1 son-in-Law. She will be greatly missed.
