Stanley N. Bucklew, 78, of Parkersburg, WV passed away September 24, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born June 10, 1940 in Parkersburg, WV and was the son of R. Clyde Bucklew and Ruth E. (McKitrick) Bucklew. Stan was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, Class of 1958, where he played basketball and football.

He worked various jobs and then joined both the 1092D Engineer Battalion (c) (a) Army National Guard of WV completed in 1965 and Army National Guard of WV and Reserve of the Army completed in 1968. He later graduated from Glenville State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education where he also played football as a defensive end. He then continued with his education at West Virginia University, completing a Master’s Degree.

During this time, Stan was employed with the Wood County School system teaching/coaching at Washington Junior High and later teaching and coaching at Parkersburg South High School. He was a Head Coach of Boys Basketball and Golf, and was Assistant Football Coach for a shorter time. Stan also worked as a Real Estate agent at Town and County Realty for many years and he built many homes and apartment buildings in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

He was the sole owner of Bucklew Construction Company and was well known as a partner in Greenmont Development Inc. with developing and building in the Greenmont Hills Subdivision in Vienna, WV and was also a partner in Westwood Land Company, developing and building homes in the Westwood Subdivision in Parkersburg, WV. He was a local President of the Home Builders Association and also served as a President of the WV State Home Builders Association. Although he was a man of many accomplishments, he understood the importance of friends, family and his employees.

Stan also enjoyed boating, golfing, and deep sea fishing. He was an avid fan of football and basketball his entire life. He loved the West Virginia University Mountaineers attending many games.

He also followed NASCAR racing, and professional golf. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years Patricia S. (Sams) Bucklew; his children Beckie A. Koonge (Kenny) of Silver Spring MD, and Kathie L. Parsons (Shane) of Vienna, WV. His grandchildren, James R. Bolton, Tyler S. Parsons, and Amanda S. Parsons.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers. This includes his primary physician Dr. Heavener, the Hospice staff of Amedisys (which includes his assigned caregiving team Dr. Onestinghel, Dr. Avery, Donna, Greg, Josh, Michelle, and Nicole for their outstanding care over the last year, making it possible to keep him at home. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors of the first floor Oncology Unit at Camden Clark Medical Center for their truly excellent care.

We would like to thank his neighbors and Jessica Nelson for their helping out as needed. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 4th, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Leavitt’s Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV with Pastoral Chaplain Randell Fuson officiating.
