Thelma C. Coleman,100, of Frizzellburg, also known as “The Mayor of Frizzellburg” passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born April 17, 1918 in Finksburg she was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Effie Duvall Glover. She was the wife of A. Royer Coleman who predeceased her June 8, 1960.

Thelma graduated from Westminster High School in 1936. She worked at Willow Farm Dairy in Frizzellburg and Coppers Company in Baltimore during the war as a supervisor. She… Read More » and her husband moved to Frizzellburg in 1948 and opened Coleman Food Center, which they ran until 1961.

She went on to do private duty nursing, caring for the elderly in the Westminster area. She was very active in her church, Frizzellburg Bible Church as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, Ladies Aid and on the board of the church council, as well as numerous other volunteer projects. Thelma was a member of Frizzellburg Homemakers, The Westminster Rescue Mission Auxiliary, Frizzellburg Improvement Committee and a volunteer at Carroll County General Hospital for over 40 years.

She also volunteered taking people to doctor’s appointments. Thelma is survived by her daughter Vickie & Tim Kyle of Westminster; and 3 grandchildren, Kimberly Kyle, Ryan & Brittany Kyle, and Cheryl Crowe; and 6 great- grandchildren, Tabitha, Makenna, Jason, Jamie, Dylan and Christopher; and 4 great-great- grandchildren, Nathan, Josh, Jordan and Jonathan. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Kraft and brother Herman Glover.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 17 at Frizzellburg Bible Church, 1905 Frizzellburg Road, Westminster at 11:00 am with Rev. Andrew Reisberg officiating.

There will be visitation for one and a half hours prior. Interment will be in Westminster Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Thelma’s name to Frizzellburg Bible Church, 1905 Frizzellburg Road, Westminster, MD 21158; Pleasant Valley Community Fire Department, 2030 Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, MD 21158; Westminster Rescue Mission Auxiliary, 658 Lucabaugh Mill Road, Westminster, MD 21157; or Carroll Hospital Auxiliary, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
