Obituary for Walter Herston Cantrell Walter Herston Cantrell, age 83, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home. He was born in Buchanan County and was the son of the late Luther Washington and Eva Tennessee Horn Cantrell. He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff area most of his life and was a former tow truck operator and coal miner.

He was a member of the American Towing Society and Virginia Board of Towing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; three infant children; son in law, Steve Clark; in-laws, Harman and Lorraine Compton; five brothers in law; three nephews; his beloved Donk; his beloved fur babies; and numerous other extended family and friends. Survivors are: His Wife of 61 years, Shelvie Mae Compton Cantrell Daughters: Lynne Clark of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Amanda Deel and husband, Gary of Pounding Mill, Virginia Sons: Terry Cantrell of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Trent Cantrell of Belfast, Virginia Sisters: Walsie Vandyke of Flint, Michigan Pauline Davidson of Keen Mtn, Virginia Geraldine Mounts of Richlands, Virginia Juanita Hale and husband, Sam of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Brothers: Carl Cantrell and wife, Wanda of Lady Lake, Florida Thurman Cantrell and wife, Marie of McVey, Kentucky Grandchildren: Chris Clark and wife, Kathy Jo; Greg Cantrell; Kenzie Deel; Carrie Cantrell; and Meghan Deel Great Grandchildren: Summer Clark and Lucas Clark Walt is also survived by his “special partner in crime” and brother-in-law, Bob Compton, who stood by him and visited daily.

Funeral services for Walter Cantrell will be conducted Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 12:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Roger Boyd, Rev. Don Smith, and Rev.

Johnny Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Horn-Cantrell Family Cemetery on Horn Mountain near Shortts Gap, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Chris Clark, Nick Regon, Keith Brewster, Don Matney, Robbie Powell, Grant Meadows, Dave Olinger, Pat Shrader, Danny Brown, G.B. Barton, Danny Skeens,and Craig Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dennis Houchins, Less Compton, Dale Kinder, Earl Dye, and Dave Mills.
