Anthony “Tony” Valencia, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:07 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He was born December 2, 1934 in Granite City, a son of the late Otillio and Juana (Belman) Valencia. He married Barbara Jean (Nicol) Valencia on January 31, 1954 and she passed away on October 16, 1994.

He retired from Granite City Steel after over 40 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He had also owned and operated V&V Ceramics in Madison for many years. Tony was a member of the Mexican Honorary Commission and enjoyed working with wood.

He was always helping family and friends and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with all. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Gary Stitch of Troy, Illinois; a son, Teno Valencia of Kittredge, Colorado; five grandchildren, Emily and Phil Mills, A.J. and Virginia Valencia, Elizabeth Stitch, Christine Stitch and Shana Valencia; three great grandchildren, Ryan Mills, Abby Mills and Ryder Valencia; a brother, John B. Valencia of Granite City; three sisters, Helen “Nena” Valencia of Granite City, Dolores Broyles of Granite City and Lupe Valencia of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Faustino “Kelly” Valencia, Abel Valencia and Otillio “Leehee” Valencia Jr. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 with Reverend Rufus Valencia officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home.
