Arlene Illick Zemgulis, 92, formerly of Easton, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 in ManorCare. Born September 4, 1925 in Easton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel R. Illick and Fannie M. (Conrad) Fritchman Illick. She was a descendent of Rudolf Ilig (Illick) who migrated to this country from Germany in 1732 and his relatives settled in Lower Saucon, Williams Township and Easton.

Arlene was a 1943 graduate of Easton High School. Years ago, she worked for the former General Aniline and Film, and New York Transformer Co She loved gardening, birdwatching, painting, woodworking, fishing, reading, crafts and jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

She enjoyed sending cards and a monthly letter to the sick, shut-ins and elderly folks. She was your “Friend Who Cares”. A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, South Easton, she had been a member of the choir and church council, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, was financial secretary and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and other organizations.

Arlene was a St. Paul’s Quilter for over 40 years. Surviving are five daughters, Judith M. Keen and her husband Bruce, of Palmer Township, Paula A. Ehlman and her husband Vincent, of Easton, Danelle R. Kookan and her husband Jerome, of Freemansburg, Jamie L. Lancaster and her husband Roderick, of Pisgah Forest, NC, and Betsy A. Reilly and her husband Thomas, of Bethlehem Township; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eleven brothers, Robert Sr., James, George, Ralph, Earl, Russell, Chester, Lester, Paul and Asher Illick, and Sherwood Fritchman, and four sisters, Catherine Snyder, Helen Carson, Thelma Berryman and Doris Black.

Five brothers, Ralph, Asher, Robert, James and George, and a sister, Thelma served their country in World War II. James sacrificed his life at Anzio Beachhead in Italy. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am Friday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 602 W. Berwick St., Easton.
