Obituary for Bettie Mae McGuire Bettie Mae McGuire, age 96, of Bandy, Virginia entered into eternal rest on July 19, 2018. Bettie was born on May 20, 1922 in Tazewell County, Virginia to the late Alec and Betty Dunford Barnett. She was a very active member of the Bandy Assembly of God where she acted as a board member, Sunday school teacher, and women’s ministries.
She also prepared food whenever there was a need. Mrs. McGuire was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow Wilson McGuire; three sisters, Cora Wright, Ocie Wright, and Amelia Billings; and four brothers, William George, James, and Woodrow Barnett.
Those left to cherish her memory include: Daughter, Lenora Ray Miller of Bandy, Virginia Grandchildren: Greg Ray and wife, Melissa who was a special caregiver Tim Ray Step Granddaughter: Gretchen Vandyke and husband, Jack. Greatgrandchildren: Laken Brooke Ray and Hannah Grace Ray Step Great Grandchildren: Jordon and Madison Vandyke Several beloved nieces, nephews, and a host of additional friends and neighbors also survive. The family would like to extend gratitude to Legacy Hospice and Dr. Larry Mitchell for the care that they provided during Bettie’s illness.
Funeral services for Bettie Mae McGuire will be conducted at 1 PM on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Reverend Wayne Mullins and the Reverend John Akers officiating. Interment will follow at the Bandy Cemetery on Whittaker Ridge near Bandy, Virginia. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Ranny Blackburn and Dr. Larry Mitchell will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 11 AM until the time of the service.
