Obituary for Jerry Bennett Presley On July 13, 2018, in Abingdon, VA, Jerry Bennett Presley, age 79 of Baptist Valley, VA, left this earthly world to be reunited with his deceased loved ones; but more importantly his Heavenly Father. Jerry was born November 8, 1938 in Tazewell, VA and was a son of the late Ralph Everett Presley and Ada Jane Peters Presley. Mr. Presley was a lifelong resident of Baptist Valley, VA; he was a 1956 Graduate of Tazewell High School and a graduate of the Washington County Career and Technical School.
Jerry was a retired Draftsman and Waste Water Engineer, having worked for both Hercules and Consolidated Coal Company for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, model cars and railroads, restoring old cars and volunteering at the local food pantries. He was a servant of the Most High God and a member of the Dailey’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Jerry loved his family and friends, each remembering his life as one filled with charity and kindness; though he was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, he would want to remind us, that we can take comfort in knowing that he now rests in the comforting Presence of Almighty God. Those who survive to cherish his memories include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Barbara Ann McCoy Presley; his daughter, Sue Ellen Presley and husband, Jim Talbert of Tazewell, VA; his son, Anthony Wayne Presley and wife, Jamie of North Tazewell, VA; sister, Margaret Presley Cox of Lake View, NY; brother, William “Bill” Wayne Presley and wife, Judy of Eden, NC; seven grandchildren, Brandon Presley and wife, Angela, Lee Whitt, Matthew, Elisabeth, Eden, Jediah and Christian Presley; two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Ryan Presley; a host of other family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Mr. Presley will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Rev.
John Repass officiating, assisted by Rev. Henry Johnson, Ron Presley and Owen Umberger. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA.
Pallbearers will be Tony Presley, Brandon Presley, Lee Whitt, Gary Moore, Matthew Presley, Jim Talbert, Seth Walsh and Larry Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Lovern, Noah Moore, Marshall Repass, Shannon Honaker, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the men of Dailey’s Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2018.
