Obituary for Georgia Mae Dillard Lockhart Georgia Mae Dillard Lockhart, age 96 of Vinton, VA, formerly of Tazewell, VA went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2018 in a Roanoke, VA adult care and rehab facility. She was born August 13, 1922 at Tazewell, VA and was a daughter of the late William R. and Susie Ratliff Dillard. Georgia was strong in her Christian faith and read the Bible daily.
She was an avid walker and was often seen in Tazewell walking various tracks and roads around town. While living in Tazewell, she worked as a clerk for the former Pop Shop convenience store on Fincastle Turnpike, where her smiling face could be seen almost daily until she retired. Georgia moved to Roanoke with her late husband, Garland, in 1990 where they frequented Brookside Par 3 Golf Course.
She continued to play golf until the age of 93. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and friend; she loved her family unconditionally. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland C. Lockhart; two sisters, Arley Wilburn and Virginia A. Kinder; five brothers, Burkett Dillard, Pierce Dillard, Roy “Toby” Dillard, Paul Dillard and Jack Dillard.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation. Those who survive to cherish her memory include her son, Jerry Lockhart of Vinton, VA; two grandsons, Eric Lockhart of Nashville, TN and Scott Lockhart of Charleston, SC; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, to include Nancy White, to whom the family wishes to say thank you for your loving care and support, and nephews, other family members and friends also survive. Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Pastor Chris White officiating.
Burial will immediately follow the Graveside Service. There will be no visitation prior to the services on Thursday, September 27, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: National Headquarters 225 N. Michigan Ave.
