Bruce Alan Darne, 55, of Niagara, WI died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his home with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 24, 1963 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Orland and Helen Darne. Bruce was a lifelong resident of Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School in 1981.

He worked at Marcoullier’s while in high school, along with summers during college. Bruce received a Bachelor of Science in Education and Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, graduating in 1986. Bruce was a third grade teacher at Holy Spirit School in Norway, MI from 1987 to 2000.

He was currently working as the Branch Librarian Manager at the Niagara Public Library for the past 18 years. Bruce was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church, serving as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He belonged to the Niagara Knights of Columbus Council #2847, serving as the Grand Knight from 2010 to 2016.

He served as the Scribe for many years with the Kingsford Fourth Degree Assembly #512, as well as serving as a member of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard. Bruce was a Life Member of the Friends of Niagara Public Library and was instrumental in bringing phenomenal special events to Niagara and the surrounding communities. He loved to read and to spend time at camp.

Bruce loved to socialize, could talk to anyone, and was such an inspiration to all he encountered! Bruce, with his magnetic and charming personality and as a beloved member of the Niagara community, was the current reigning Mr. Niagara. He also had a passion for collecting Nutcrackers.

He is survived by his brother, Mike Darne of Niagara; Michael Demski, who was like a brother, and his family: wife, Teresa, and son, Michael, Jr.; the Burton family. Bruce is further survived by numerous relatives and friends, near and far. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orland and Helen Darne.

Visitation will be from 8:30 am until 11:00 am Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Niagara, WI. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church. Fr.
