Douglas E. Oliver, 65, of Quinnesec, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at his home. Doug was born on December 20, 1953 in Iron Mountain, the son of Dale and Barbara (Nelson) Oliver. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated in 1972 from Kingsford High School, along with his sweetheart, Joan Forstrom.

On April 27, 1974, Doug and Joan were married at Calvary Lutheran Church in Quinnesec. Doug worked for the Champion/Verso Paper Mill for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2016. In his spare time he was a skilled carpenter and could build or fix just about anything.

He was a Ford “Model A” enthusiast and a member of the Superior A’s in Ishpeming. Doug also enjoyed deer hunting, riding motorcycles, writing poetry and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joan; a son, Paul Oliver (fiance Briana); daughter, Traci Oliver (Tim Krans), his mother, Barbara Oliver; a brother, Bob Oliver; sister, Leila (Jim) Canavera; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Phyllis Forstrom; sister-in-law, Kathy (Joe) Anderson; five grandchildren, Logan, Olivia, Brady, Hunter, and Addysen; a special niece, Kati (Dieter) Hanamann and great-nephew, Anderson Hanamann.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Dale Oliver; brothers, David Oliver and Gary Oliver; and his beloved granddaughter, LeAnn Black. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

A brief visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday Feb. 23 followed by services at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Dave Johnson will officiate.
