Henry (Hank) Carl Olson, 93 of Homestead, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, February 14th, 2019 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Kingsford. Hank was born on October 25, 1925 in Homestead at his parent’s home which he and his wife still resided. He was the son of Swedish immigrants Jhalmer and Hannah Olson.

He was a 1944 graduate of Kingsford High School. Hank served in the Army from 1945-1946. He was also a member of the Michigan National Guard as a SFC Det 1, HHC 107th Engineer Bn for 30 years.

He was employed with Wahlstrom’s Dairy before working as a Core Maker at Grede Foundries until his retirement in 1987. Hank loved to play baseball. He once tried out for the Redding Browns Minor League Baseball Team.

He faithfully followed the Chicago White Sox and the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed spending time outdoors cutting wood and mowing grass. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was a special man and always had a smile on his face. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kelly and Stanley, sisters, Alice, Violet and Gladys. Brothers and sister-in-laws Hartley (Marcia) Anderson, Raymond (Marion) Anderson, LaVerne Anderson, Dean Melin and nieces and nephew Marjorie Kost, Connie Francar and Russ Johnson.

Hank is survived by his wife of 68 years Vernice, children Diane (John) Windle of Oshkosh, Ron (Lynne) Olson of Homestead, Larry (Bebina) Olson of Malaysia and Daniel (Angela) Olson of Kingsford. He also leaves his grandchildren Renee (Mark) Luther, JB (Abby) Windle, Amy (Jesse) Stoltenow, Bryan (Samantha) Olson, Chad Olson, Corrie Grimmer, Carl Olson and Calyn Olson, Andar and Addrian Olson, Ben Gordon and 10 great grandchildren. Further survived by beloved sister-in-law Vivian Melin and brother-in-law Ben Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 18th from 9:00-11:30 at the Aurora Free Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 at the church. Lunch will follow.

Pastor Karl Utzat will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora-Homestead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established at a later date.
