Lorraine A. Blichmann, 89, of Kingsford, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Freeman Nursing & Rehabilitation Community. She was born May 10, 1929, in Radisson, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Tharaldsen) Bjorkquist.
Lorraine graduated from Hayward High School in 1947, continuing on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Records Administration from The College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, MN. On June 15, 1957 she was united in marriage to Dale Blichmann in Dubuque, Iowa and they were blessed with 54 wonderful years of marriage. Dale preceded Lorraine in death on January 5, 2012.
Lorraine was employed at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in the medical records department, retiring in 1986. She was a longtime resident of Kingsford’s Ford Addition, living in the local area for over 60 years. Lorraine was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music.
She loved traveling with her husband Dale, with whom she would often venture far off the beaten path, whether canoeing the Missouri River or backpacking in Wyoming. Closer to home, she enjoyed walking, bicycling, and cross country skiing. Her great patience, upbeat spirit, and tolerance for chaos were treasured by her family and all who knew her.
She was a longstanding member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, and involved in their Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for many years. Lorraine is survived by her sons, Bob (Betsy Bond) Blichmann of Brevard, NC, Tom Blichmann of Norway, MI and Jim (Jodi) Blichmann of Grand Rapids, MI; seven grandchildren, Paul and Nathaniel (Lindsey) Blichmann, Brenda (Jeff) Gurchinoff and Dana Blichmann, Jennifer (Dan) Terrill, Justine (Matt) Anderson, and Jeffrey (Serena) Blichmann; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Lymburner.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am at St. Mary & St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain. Fr.
Romanek Janusz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Dickinson County Right to Life.
