Hein, 93, Lake Mills, died on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Lilac Springs Assisted Living early in the morning with two of his sons at his side. He was born September 18, 1925 in Lake Mills, son of Benjamin Albert and Clara Ester (Steinel) Hein. He grew up in Milford attending Milford Grade School, graduating from Lake Mills High School, class of 1943.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from October 1943 until his Honorable Discharge on February 28, 1946. During the South Pacific part of W.W.II he was an amphibian tractor operator training in San Diego then Guadalcanal for training before helping take Peleliu Island and traveling to Okinawa. Upon returning to Lake Mills he married Harriett E. Jorgensen on June 29, 1946.

Together they shared 70+ years together. Kelly wore a number of hats. He could build or drive and figure out almost anything, owned and operated farms and trucking, finishing his career driving truck for Schweiger Industries of Jefferson.

He was a member of the Milford Methodist Church, the Lake Mills Methodist Church, and over 50 years with the Clarence Bean-Warren George Lake Mills American Legion Post #67 where he ran the Bingo for many years and cooked sliders at the hamburger stand. In his retirement he enjoyed golfing and fishing locally and in Okeechobee, Florida. Kelly is survived by his children, Michael (Heidi), William (Sandy), David (Linda), Susan (Kevin) Klement, Kathy (Mark) Brendler, Loree (Lynn) Walker; son-in-laws, Jim Kottwitz, Pete Pitterle; sister-in-law, Vivian Stelse; 16 grandchildren; Steven Hein, Ronald Hein, Patrick Hein, Jennifer Hein- Aldrich, Michael Clark, Derek Hein, Robin Untz, James Klement, Nick Pitterle, Kurt Pitterle, Sara Pitterle, Skyler Kottwitz, Joseph Kottwitz, Benjamin Brendler, Andrew Walker, Elizabeth Walker; 32 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Kelly was preceded in death by his loving wife, Harriett; daughters, Sally Pitterle and Gail Kottwitz; his parents, Ben and Clara Hein; brothers, James, Marvin, and Phil; sisters, Elaine Hein and Joyce Schuld; and a number of other relatives. By request there will be no formal services and private family burial with military graveside honors will be held at the Aztalan-Milford Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank Rainbow Hospice (Becky)and their team of support and care; the staff at Lilac Springs Assisted Living for the wonderful care and the Claussen Funeral Home for final arrangements and caring concern.
