CATHERINE CECILIA VEALE July 05, 1921 – March 24, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation SPRINGFIELD – Catherine C. (Callahan) Veale, 97, a native of Indian Orchard and lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away in the comfort of her home with her family at her side on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Catherine was born on July 5, 1921 in Indian Orchard and was the youngest of 10 children of the late Patrick and Ellen (Sheehan) Callahan. She attended St. Matthew’s grammar school and graduated from Cathedral High School.

She attended Bay Path Secretarial School and during World War II she volunteered for the American Red Cross. Catherine served as a secretary at Monsanto, H.L. Handy Company and James River Graphics in West Springfield for several years retiring in 1990. She was an active member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish in East Springfield and was a member of its Women’s Club.

She was also involved with the Daughters of Isabella, Magna Carta Circle 130 and had at one time served as its Regent. Catherine was an avid Red Sox fan and an excellent candlepin bowler until she retired from the team at 94 years of age. Catherine leaves her husband of 69 years, Patrick J. Veale III, 2 sons, Patrick J. Veale IV and his wife Deborah of Garden Grove, CA.

and Michael J. Veale of Medford, a daughter, Claudia C. Fiaschetti of Sun Valley, ID, 4 grandchildren, Frank, Colleen & Catherine Fiaschetti and Candice Meier as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by each of her nine siblings, John, James, Thomas and Msgr. Robert Callahan, Bernice Hartwell, Helen LaBelle, Irene Murphy, Esther Curto and Mary LaHouse.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 in the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee from 4 to 7 p.m. Family and friends will meet on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd. , Springfield for the celebration of Catherine’s Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chicopee Falls.
