Charlene Sheffield Mallard, 81, of Plains passed away on March 26, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dawson at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Mallard was a resident of Seymour’s Southern Comforts in Bronwood. She was born in Plains, Georgia on June 3, 1936. She was a graduate of Plains High School and of Louisiana College in Pineville, LA, where she received a B.A. in Art.

She was a homemaker, a freelance artist and worked for the Georgia Baptist Convention as a trainer for Preschool teachers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson. Mrs. Mallard was preceded in death by her parents, Y.T. Sheffield and Lilloise Lunsford Sheffield and by her husband, Rev.

James W. Mallard. She is survived by her children, Marcia Mallard Boyd (Dan) of Plains, Michael Mallard of Plains and Cindy Mallard Thompson of Ooltewah, TN; grandchildren, Ryan Boyd (Sally Geer) of Albany, Tommy Boyd (Sara Hendley) of Albany, Allethea Boyd Brooks (Robert) of Albany, Kaylen Mallard (Jamie Greig) of Knoxville, TN, Amelia Mallard Faulker (Kyle) of Chicago, IL, Aaron Thompson, Avery Thompson and Anna Thompson, all of Ooltewah, TN; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Lawson and Karis Brooks, James and Jean Boyd, Henry Boyd and Stella Faulkner; brother, Y.T. Sheffield (Margaret Miller) of Durham, NC; and nieces, Katie Sheffield and Susan Sheffield.
