Charles Lee “Charlie” Hesseltine , 84, of Burlington, died at 5:03 PM Monday, March 18, 2019. Born February 18, 1935, he was the son of Joseph Charles Richie and the adopted son of Robert Lee and Myrtle Elizabeth Savell Hesseltine. On June 16, 1956, he married Virginia Crawford Letts in Washintgon, IA.

He later married Rose Marie Beliel on March 16, 1968 in Des Moines, IA. Rose passed in February of 1985. Charlie married Frances MaDonna Warth on March 6, 1999 in Burlington, she passed on July 1, 2015.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for DeLong Construction for 15 years. He also worked as a roofer and farmer. Charles attended Soccum Ridge High School in Washington, Iowa.

He enjoyed fishing, making homemade wine, mushroom hunting, camping and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of ABATE District 14 & 18. Survivors include five sons: Donald Lee Hesseltine of Keota, IA, Dogulas E. Hesseltine, Daniel Lee Helmick, Joseph Charles Hesseltine, and Dustin (Dusty) James Hesseltine all of Burlington; two daughters, Gail Morris of Humboet, IA, and Rebecca K. Loving of Wayland, IA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by both sets of parents, three wives, both sets of grandparents, one sister Jean Hesseltine of Washington, IA, and several aunts and uncles. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory. There will be no visitation or services.

At a later date, the family will hold a celebration of life. Memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House and ABATE.
