Charles Paul Kaufman, 85, died May 18, 2019, at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10:30 am, at St, Mary’s Cathedral. Father Jim Golka will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5-7 pm at All Faiths Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7pm. Charles was born on July 20,1933 in Grand Island to Charles and Alberta (Murphy) Kaufman. He was raised and received his education in Grand Island and Gothenburg.

After high school, he attended Kearney State College and the Grand Island Business College. He entered the United States Airforce and served during the Korean War. On November 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth McDermott.

Five children were blessed into this union. Charles was employed by the State of Nebraska, Motor Vehicle Dept. and was the Administrator for the State Employee Credit Union in Lincoln; Nebraska Tractor and Equipment, and he was the Administrator / Property Superintendent for the Hall County Parks and Recreation.

Charles was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, Elks, and the Platt-Duetsche. He loved his job so much that it extended into his personal life, as his hobbies included yard work, landscaping, and coming up with ideas to improve Hall County parks. Charles was a man known by many names.

His family could tell who was calling by what name they asked to speak to. Some of the names he went by are Pete, Paul, Chuck, Charlie Brown, Mr. Kaufman, and on occasion someone would call him Charles. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; children, Sally Burkholder of Grand Island, Peggy (Tom) Haverland of Dubuque, IA, Nancy (Jim) Spiehs of Omaha, Mark (Helen) Kaufman of Grand Island, Lisa Snyder of St. Paul; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren plus two more on the way.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alberta JoAnn Geis. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Grand Island Make-A-Wish Foundation. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Charles “Pete” P. Kaufman please visit our Sympathy Store.
