Obituary for Charles Wayne Johnson Charles Wayne Johnson, 71, of Laurel, born in Covington County MS on November 24, 1946, passed away on July 17, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Union Seminary Baptist Church on Friday, July 20th. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and the service will follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.

Rev. Buddy Jennings will officiate. Mr. Johnson worked for Jasper County and attended Union Seminary Baptist Church.

He loved to fish and also worked as an iron worker when living in Texas. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernie Edwin Johnson; two sisters, Linda Faye Johnson Townsend, and Peggy Sue McMullan.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Clark; sons, Stephen Johnson of Laurel and Chayne Johnson of Colorado; daughters, Charla Hathaway (Jared) and Channah Newton (Ben) all of Texas; brothers, David E. Johnson of Laurel; sisters, Patricia Bankston, Deborah Elkins (Ricky), and JoAnn Campbell (Louis) all of Laurel; three grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Melinda Shows. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Campbell, Jason Campbell, Brian McMullan, Matthew Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Rick Elkins, and Robby Bankston. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Helms, Hudson Helms, and Ricky Helms.
