Charles A. Rainwater, age 86, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Granite Nursing and Rehab Center, Granite City, IL. Charles was born on August 18, 1931 in Dover, TN, a son of the late William Rainwater and Delores (Settle) Rainwater. Charles served his country proudly in the United States Army.

On December 17, 1954, Charles married Anna F. Griffin, the love of his life, in Washington, D.C., Anna passed away on January 11, 2008. Charles was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping and playing his guitar in his younger years.

Charles will be remembered for the love of his family, the special times spent with his grandchildren and his love of his cats and dogs. Charles will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brittany and Austin Meyer; and by his sisters and brothers, Christine, Ora, Ida, Mabel, Estelle, Betty, Earl, J.T. and Odell.

He is survived by his loving children, Charla (Randolph) Meyer of Florissant, MO and Jerry Rainwater of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to Ashley (Brian) Richter and Jessica Simpson; proud great-grandfather to Caleb and Anna Richter; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, with Rev.

David Denton officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bethesda Baptist Church or to Granite City A.P.A. and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
