Stamps, 92, of 112 American Legion Blvd. / Clarkson Road, Danville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at SOVAH Health, Danville, VA. Born January 18, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late Charlie Willie Stamps and Lula B. Anderson Stamps.

He was married to the late Rowena Fitzgerald Stamps. He was a member of Vance Street Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon’s Ministry. He was the last of his generation.

Survivors include one daughter, Priscilla Ann String of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Michael Jeffress of Martinsville, VA, Maurice Jeffress of Syracuse, NY, Leslie String of Chesapeake, VA and Randall String of Hampton, VA; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Russell; one great-grandson, M.J. Jeffress; one niece, Michelle Bellamy; a son-in-law, Merideth Jeffress of Martinsville, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Jean Jeffress; one brother, Harold Stamps; a son-in-law, Lester String. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 1PM from Vance Street Missionary Baptist Church with Min. Arnold Wilkerson, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 from 4-8 with the family being present from 6-7 from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is assisting the Stamps family.
